Twins ‘Stop and Drop’ as Astros ‘Roll’ in Wild Card Series

Stop, drop and roll was always such a big deal as a kid… guess the Twins missed that class.

The Minnesota Twins lost their 18th straight postseason game, as part of a two game sweep by the ‘fiery’ Houston Astros in the American League Wild Card Series today.

This series featured high-quality pitching from both teams. However, the difference in this best-of-three dumpster fire was the error made by Twins SS Polanko in the 9th inning of Game 1 and the two-out tie-breaking HR hit by Carlos Correa in the 7th inning of Game 2. 

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said, “Today, in a tight situation, anything you’re not going to execute is going to come back to bite you. And that’s what happened in today’s game.”

One thing was clear; the Astros wanted it more. The Astros capitalized on offensive opportunities, outhitting a Twins offense that finished as one of the best in MLB this year. A contributing factor could have been that the Twins were without stars 3B Josh Donaldson and CF Byron Buxton.

Nevertheless, the Twins offense looked lifeless in this series. The only two RBIs in the entire series for the Twins came from veteran DH Nelson Cruz.

The Astros will go on to play the winner of the Chicago White Sox and the Oakland A’s series in the ALDS on Monday.
